Arrival and Check-In @ 8:30am

Arrive at Rio Grande Stables @ 8:30a for check-in: paperwork, a safety talk with your guide, and an individual riding lesson before hitting the trail.

Enjoy an awesome lunch

This is where we pull out our world class picnic of roasted chicken, artisanal cheeses, black bean or quinoa salad, fresh fruit, cookies, etc.

Is there a weight limit?

For safety and comfort, weight limit for trail ride is 250 lbs / 113 Kgs

I'm by myself & it says I need 2 to book?

Single adult riders should call the office to be added to an existing ride. (575) 776-5913

Things to know

Age Requirement

Riders must be 8 years or older.

Cancellation Policy

A strict 7-day cancellation policy applies.

What to Wear

Long pants and closed-toe shoes are required. We recommend lightweight longsleeve shirts for sun protection & a rain jacket in case the weather turns!

Weather Conditions

We ride rain or shine! Be prepared for changing weather conditions.

Weight

250lb limit. Riders should be in good health & be able to mount/dismount with little to no assistance

Riding Experience

None needed! The trail is pretty relaxed with some elevation gain & will ride along the edge of the gorge

Minor E-Waivers

Minors accompanied by an adult that is not a parent/legal guardian MUST have a parent/legal guardian complete the stables' e-waiver prior to the ride.

I broke my ankle while hiking last weekend and EMS was able to get a lovely mule named Lady from Rio Grande Stables to give me a ride out. Lady was lovely and I'm not sure I would have gotten out of the gorge without her. Incredibly smooth ride, more comfortable than the ambulance ride! I'm forever indebted to Lady and the Rio Grande Stables. I can't wait to return for a ride when my ankle is better. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

We had a great evening trail ride with Javier! Lady and Duncan, the mule and horse my friend and I rode, were sweet as can be. The landscape was beautiful and it was a great end to our trip. Would definitely recommend it again!
